RECLAIMED CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS FOR INTERIORS AND EXTETIORS SINCE 1993
RECLAIMED CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS: A PASSION THAT BECAME AN INDUSTRY
Following his lifetime passion for old materials (especially cementina, graniglia and terra cotta floors), in 1993 Vittorio Contini decided to open a company that, over the course of a few years, became known in Piacenza and later on a national scale, as a true leader in the field in terms of quality and quantity of stock.
TAVELLE IN TERRA COTTA AND STONE FLOORINGS: HOW IT ALL BEGAN
The interest in antique materials rendered precious by the beauty of time is the incentive for continuous research and expansion of our catalogue, which extends from the most common and requested materials like old reclaimed bricks or beams and tiles, to include rarer items like old stone sinks, reclaimed fountains, antique iron gates, old window gratings and balconies in wrought iron.
RECLAIMED CEMENTINA TILES, GRANIGLIA AND MARMETTE TILES
During its 20 years of activity the company has seen a continuous increase in the interest of architects and builders in the use of materials and techniques from the past (be they reclaimed items or simply reproductions), particularly with regard to flooring.
Along with the traditional reclaimed floors of stone or terra cotta, there is a large request for colored cementina tiles (also called pastina) and graniglia tiles (marmetta).
CEMENTINA TILES FOR INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR USE
Cementina tiles were at their highest popularity in the first decade of the 1900’s, when they were often the choice material for the splendid interior and exterior floors of the most beautiful buildings of the era. New trends in renovations encourage the reclaiming and reuse of cementina tiles that allow architects and interior designers to cleate floors which are attractive and unique in their colors, forms and textures. The large request of the past few years has stimulated a resurgance in the production of new cementina tiles. Vittorio Contini, however, offers exclusively old reclaimed cementina and pastina tiles. Scratches, nicks and slight variations of color are all part of the uniqueness of the product (see our section on services for our maintenance suggestions).
ANTIQUE GRANIGLIA TILES FOR FLOORING
Elegant, resistent and highly aesthetic, floors in graniglia tiles have been used since the end of the 1800’s predominantly for interiors, but also for exteriors where climatic conditions permit. Their use originates from the pavements of Venetian style terraces.
RECLAIMED MATERIALS FOR EXTERIORS AND GARDENS
Although cementina and graniglia tiles have captured a large part of the market’s attention in the past few years, Vittori Contini continues to provide a vast selection of reclaimed antique bricks, original terra cotta beams, roof tiles and stone floorings for interiors and exteriors, for both renovations and new buildings. There is an especially large selection of reclaimed materials for exteriors, gardens and courtyards: old stones, terra cotta, cement, balconies and antique gates as well as unique pieces like stairs, fireplaces, columns, vats and stone or cement sinks.
